Most articles will tell you that meal-prep is beneficial for many reasons. Honestly from my experience I do meal-prep for ONE reason only: TO FEEL GREAT! Might sound simple, so let me break it down for you.
WHAT IS MEAL-PREP?
Meal prepping is the concept of preparing whole meals ahead of schedule. It’s particularly popular amongst busy people because it can save a lot of time.
Having meals-prepped on hand can also help to reduce portion size and allow you to reach your nutrition goals.
WHY DID I START DOING MEAL-PREP?
In 2015 I decided to participate in bodybuilding competitions, the nutrition required was really clean meals and ended up being a lot to cook. I remember that I had to eat seven times per day and not eat fast food at all. I was working 8-5pm, training double sessions per day and studying a new language. Pretty busy huh!
So, the way I kept track of what to eat without being in the kitchen every single day, was to meal-prep every Sunday for the rest of the week. It took me five hours. I'm not even kidding...Don’t worry I’ll get to how I changed that later.
IMPORTANT TO KNOW
There is one important thing to consider before moving forward with meal-Prep. As always I mention in my blogs: “Each and every person has unique needs”. With that being said, make sure you have a clear goal or reason as to why you are doing meal-prep. Because whatever you do in life needs to have meaning behind it, otherwise it is not sustainable. And let me tell you: Meal-prep is SO WORTH IT! It’s a really great habit not only for your physical results but also for your health and daily productivity.
HOW I DO MEAL-PREP
My success journey to doing meal-prep isn’t what you would think. It went from taking 5 hours every Sunday to now being just 30min or less. It’s all about practicality and consistency.
HERE IS MY SCHEDULE
Check in the pantry and fridge for what I have and I don’t have then make a grocery list from there [Free printable example of grocery list, Click here]
Saturday: Grocery Shopping.
Sunday: Meal-Prep. Goal: 5 meals total for lunch. Here is one of my meal Prep video:
What about the rest of the meals? Breakfast or Dinner?
I cook something really quick for breakfast. (link recipe here) Dinner I get soup or left over from lunch. I am so simple. Of course, since I'm no longer competing I don’t need to eat seven meals per day like before lol.
WHY DO I STILL DO MEAL-PREP?
I am not sick like before, I don’t have headaches any more..only if I drink wine on Friday lol.. And on top of that I ended up saving money. A takeout healthy-meal cost no less than $15.
Also, it helps me track what I eat and know exactly what ingredients are in my food. Because it’s important for me to eat as clean as possible.
TIME! Oh boy! I am busy as always, I think now more than ever before, prepping my meals really allows me to work on things that I truly love such as writing blogs like this, editing work-out videos for Youtube channel [JessFitgo Channel] or helping to change people's lives.
WHY I WILL DO IT FOREVER?
For all my previous reasons and how I feel, It’s really what I want, I like it, I am used to it and don’t see any cons at all.
If you are still thinking about it. Do not thinking twice, I promise you will FEEL GREAT. But you will never know until you try it...
Remember to have your own “REASON WHY” and move from there.
